Carrie, voiceover: That afternoon, the girls and I all decided to meet for lunch.
Miranda: I just found out something kind of disturbing-
Carrie: WELL I just met dis new guy, Irving! And I found out where he likes to cu-
Miranda: My grandmother was an axe murderer.
Carrie, voiceover: Later that evening, I got to thinking about Miranda’s connection to the past. I wondered, could giving the axe to an ex be the perfect crime, or a BIG mistake?
I would like Martin Scorsese to be interested in a female character once in a while, but I don’t know if I’ll live that long.

#fucking exactly#scorses ain’t SHIT#his vision is as narrow as the hole of a threading needle literally who gives a fuck#if being a cinephile means pretending to like scorsese and woody and tarantino and ten other basic white men directors#then like i’m so good not being that
i meeeean ok my tags had nothing to do with sexism and pedophilia with filmmakers specifically, i guess you’re picking fights if you’re reading it that way. it was more a rejection of the cinephile culture that’s like THESE ARE THE GREATS and then every director and writer and actor in hollywood is supposed to give that speech about “oh it’s been a dream to work with so-and-so my whole life and that’s what inspired me to be here” and it’s always from these white men who make the SAME GODDAMN MOVIES and have such limited scopes imo. tarantino might be good at creating “kickass women” (whatever the fuck that means) but his movies are gratuitously violent as hell and THAT is something i take issue with, woody’s issue as a filmmaker separate from his personal life is that he has the same paint-by-number of rich white people getting stuck in their own damn elitist heads, and then scorsese has his macho-obsessed complex that’s just GREED VIOLENCE CORRUPTION BAM every time, and like it’s so boring and narrow and predictable? what these three have in common, maybe they’re not the best examples (actually i’ll stand by woody as having the greatest disproportion between esteemed reputation and hollow as fuck talent of any director) but they’re the first that came to mind, is how repetitive their film style is and how emotionally vacant their movies are. it’s just cinematography porn and one-liners and flashy performances that, when you add it up, has all the emotional resonance of a paper fucking plate. maybe that’s your thing, maybe that’s enough, but i respond to emotional investment and three-dimensional characters and a worldview that people without a fucking NYU Tisch degree can still see his or herself reflected in, and that’s why i’ve been distancing myself more and more from the culture of film fanaticism lately, it’s just a personal thing tbh so probably you can calm down and like i hope tarantino is paying you at least!! the criticism of scorsese is absolutely true and valid but lmao honestly how dare you bring quentin tarantino into this by calling him “a basic white guy” and lumping him in with pedophile rapist woody allen… quentin has written better WOC than half of hollywood’s biggest directors right now. kill bill features 6 lead women (3 being WOC) all incredibly strong and complex, and death proof has two different sets of kickass women and WOC. two movies alone featuring about a dozen female characters. so what the hell are you even talking about. the book that jackie brown was based on featured a white female lead but quentin cast pam grier simply because she was the right actress for jackie, absolutely no hesitations because of her race. so go ahead and demand better women from scorsese but tarantino has been establishing a standard for filmmakers to write better female characters since the ’90s.
